Portfolio

During the past two and a half years, Stones Throw, in partnership with local industry, employment education and training providers and community organisations, initiated over 30 activities and projects that aimed to address local unemployment issues, maximised job opportunities for local people and assisted to build the capacity and capabilities of businesses through the development of their workforce. These projects resulted in:

  • Around 300 jobs;
  • Over 1,000 jobseekers and existing workers trained;
  • 54 apprenticeships; and
  • Support for over 126 businesses.

Welcome to Noosa

A project to:

  • Drive increased revenue and profitability in local tourism business through better customer service.
  • Develop an
  • Skills project for 10 local jobseekers
  • Welcome to Noosa Program now rolled out across QLD;
  • Over 700 business owners and staff completed the program;
  • 8 local jobseekers placed into jobs.

The Work Shop

A project to:

  • Maximise participation of Sunshine Coast jobseekers and workers during the construction phase of the new Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital from 2014-2016.
  • Increase the construction skills base of the region

Queensland Workforce Skilling Strategy

A project to connect Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay jobseekers to camp operations jobs in the mining and resource regions of QLD.

Outcomes - 25 jobseekers gained work in hospitality and catering in CSG/LNG camps

Sunshine Coast Manufacturing Skills and Job Brokerage Project

To connect jobseekers to employment opportunities in the vibrant Sunshine Coast food manufacturing sector and build the capacity of manufacturing businesses.

Outcomes - 13 jobseekers gained employment and 55 existing manufacturing workers received up skilling and licensing.

Youth Employment Projects

A Jobs Drive project conducted over 30 days in the Sunshine Coast region to build better employability skills and better connect young people to local jobs through “unlocking” the hidden job market.

Outcomes - 65 young people engaged, 16 workshops delivered and 23 jobseekers placed into employment.

Drive for Employment - Morton Bay & Drive 100 Hours - Sunshine Coast

A project designed to make disadvantaged jobseekers more employable by enabling the completion of the 100 hours of driver training required to achieve a drivers licence 

Outcomes - 129 jobseekers participated with 35 youth obtaining drivers licenses (9 going into study and 21 obtaining employment as a result of gaining their licenses).

Workforce Planning and Development

A comprehensive report on the projected regional workforce over the next 20 years including an analysis of demand related to the direct and indirect impacts of regional major infrastructure projects being rolled out across the region.

Outcome – Report utilised for more effective planning by a range of stakeholders including Schools, QLD DETE, public and private training providers, Regional Development Australia and Sunshine Coast Council (Economic Development Strategy).

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Projects

A research, consultation, and local Employment Action Plan targeting areas of economic opportunity for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Outcome – A locally developed Action Plan that identifies key areas of economic opportunity underpinned by a range of projects that utilise existing government and private sector investment.

Djamgah Learning Circle

A project to develop a sunshine Coast Indigenous education, training and employment hub for local and intra and interstate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Outcomes – Attracted increased numbers of Indigenous students to the Sunshine Coast resulting in 498 Indigenous training commencements, 158 Indigenous training completions and 105 Indigenous graduates placed in employment.
