Sunshine Coast Jobs & Skills Expo

Over 100 people get jobs at the Sunshine Coast Jobs and Skills Market

Sunshine Coast Jobs & Skills Expo

The Sunshine Coast Jobs and Skills Market was held on 29th May 2014 in conjunction with the Sunshine Coast Business Expo and was an initiative of the Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Stones Throw Director, Kris McCue in his capacity as Local Employment Coordinator.

Commenting on the success of the Jobs and Skills Market, Kris McCue said, "The Jobs and Skills Market is a great example of what can be achieved from partnerships between local, state, federal governments and business and industry. I would really like to thank all of our partners including Fresh PR and Marketing, Sunshine Coast Council, TAFE QLD East Coast, jobsonthecoast.com.au, Hot91 and the Sunshine Coast Daily.

To have over 1,000 people attend the event was a great outcome. Even better is that over 100 people walked away with a job. We expect this number will increase over coming weeks as over 410 resumes were received and these take time to process".

Kris also said that the beauty of the Jobs market is that it makes direct connections between people looking for work and the employers, businesses and jobs, recruitment and labour hire agencies that have jobs on offer.

"It's about having the jobs available in the Sunshine Coast region all in the one place at the one time," he said.

Sunshine Coast Business Expo chair Ross Hepworth agreed, "This was the first year the Business Expo had included the jobs market and it was a huge success".

Over 300 jobs were available on the day ranging from entry-level positions in retail, hospitality and administration, apprenticeships and traineeships and professional level jobs across a variety of industry sectors. All the jobs were posted online at www.jobsonthecoast.com.au and will be available to view for two weeks after the Jobs Market.
